A Simple Love Story

Book Title: A Simple Love Story
Year: 2015
Client: United States

Yay! The project that I've been working in these past couple months is now finally printed and sent to me.

This is a personalized picture book for a marriage proposal. All pages of this book are filled with illustrations of client's precious moments with his loved one. As lovely as it sounds, I really enjoyed working on this project. It's my second time to make this kind of book after The Story of Us that I've done before, back in 2013 from a client in Australia.

Too bad I cannot show you their beautiful faces because we agreed upon protecting client's privacy. I can only show you how he put the book in the bookshelf, minutes before he proposed, as shown below:

VLOG #1 - Spaying My Dogs

This is my first vlog and it's just my personal thoughts and opinion about spaying or neutering a dog or cat.

Both my dogs, Suri and Lammy, are going to get fixed. It's been a struggle for me to eventually convince myself to bring them to vet because here in Indonesia, it's very uncommon to spay or neuter a pet. I do a lot of researches, read a lot of articles and some books, watch videos, see the facts that there are many stray dogs and cats living with no food and shelter, and finally come to conclusion that yes, I need to spay my dogs.

I'm kind of hoping to get more people in Indonesia, who still think it's taboo to spay or neuter a dog or a cat to watch this video and kind of want to know their reaction, especially if they against any sterilization, to be able to throw me some different opinions :)

DIY Softbox for Better Photography Lighting

If you're wondering whether you can improve your photography at home without hurting your wallet, this is how. Making a simple DIY softbox will help you take a better picture for your blog, your pet, or even yourself without costing too much!

Buying a real softbox is a bit too fancy for me, this DIY softbox only costs me around IDR 100k (that's less than $10!) and it works like a charm. This is very helpful especially when I need a good additional lighting for taking picture indoor or at night.

Bon Voyage!

I blow my dreams away and let them unwind
For when i close my eyes I dream of a world without pain
A life without suffering
Because of those very things too
It will be another perfect sunny day
A happy smile on strangers' faces
So I blow my dreams away and let them unwind
For when I dream my dreams with my eyes wide open
I see my dreams as exhausting concept
This world is an exhausting concept
Our love is an exhausting concept
Dull when it used to be bright
Broken when it used to be fine
We are the asshole breaking our own world
Our own hearts
So I blow my dreams away and let them unwind
I let them unwind

Zine: What would It be if I had an Identical Twin Sister?

Say hello to my first zine ever!

Recently I just signed up to Skillshare, an online learning community that offers over 100 classes and covering 12 categories from design, photography, fashion, music, culinary, business and many more. I joined 3 months premium membership as a new customer for only $0.99 that allows me to enroll so many useful classes. I'm very interested in their design category, especially illustration (of course!), because there are so many lessons from creator that I like and I did learn a lot of new things by watching their videos. One of the classes that caught my eyes was a class about making a zine. I always love the idea of zine: it's fun and free in terms of the way you make it, and it can come in any shape, size, topic, and format.

I decided to take part of this class by making my own zine called "What would It be if I had an Identical Twin Sister?"

The storyline is very simple, because I was still trying to figure out everything and I didn't want to be too stressful as it was my first time making zine. It's about my childhood imagination, back when I always imagined what would my life be like if I had an identical twin living with me. As a child, sometimes I also liked to spend hours just to talk to myself in front of the mirror and observe my reflection while thinking "So this is how my twin will look like" instead of checking myself out. In this zine, I listed few of them, things that would happen if I really had a twin.

Triplets

This is my first attempt drawing nudes in this style. The concept is about identical female triplets doing a fashion pose in nude. They are all elegant and mysteriously beautiful.

I started by searching for some inspirations and then sketching a rough sketch directly on Photoshop. I found Naomi Campbell's hairstyle suit these triplets characters so well. In fashion, I always capture the sense of enviable and the feeling of making other jealous of them and I want to depict this idea in my drawing as well.

DIY Flower Head Band

This is a tutorial of how to make a floral headband using fake flowers. Easy to make and is very pretty!

I made it for less than 15 minutes and the best part is… I spent zero money on this DIY! If you wanna buy the materials because for some reasons you don’t have fake flowers or unused headband around, I believe it will only cost like 5 dollars, depends on the price of flowers of your choice. Some fake flowers are expensive while others are pretty cheap. If you want a high quality flowers then you may want to spent a bit more. It doesn’t matter tho, cheaper doesn’t always mean uglier, because the point is that you just need to find flowers that you like and go with it!

DIY Birthday Cupcake Pop-Up Card

Let's start by calling this month the most birthday month of the year because many people I know have their birthday this month (and hey, including me, my birthday was a week ago!). Also, some of my pen pals are having their upcoming birthday too, so lately I've been busy preparing many mail-able birthday surprises for them. As for the greeting cards, I decided to do a simple DIY project and make them something handmade in order to make it unique and give it more personal touch.

Cupcakes are always a good idea for birthday. It's very cute and lovely! In real life, I don't actually eat sweets like cupcake that much, but I absolutely adore its design. And cards? Who doesn't like cards? I love receiving greeting cards for special days like Christmas, New Year, Valentine, Birthday, everything! For me, a handmade card is always a thoughtful gesture, but a handmade pop-up card is beyond impressive!

Do you like to make your own cards?
You should! Because this adorable birthday cupcake pop-up card is surprisingly very simple to make.

Materials: colored papers, scissor, cutter, ruler, pencil, and hole punch.

I'm using the total of 7 colored papers.

Anyway, if you don't like to use cupcake (seriously, why?), basically you can always make it into any design you want!

Make Up Guide: Lipstick Palette for Every Occasion

When it comes to make a decision choosing the best lipstick to wear, let's face it, there are plenty of choices and the truth is, not all shades complement every skin tone. The general guidelines suggest that the darker your complexion, the darker lip shade you can support. The casual choices for people with pale skin are nude colors like pink or peach to flatter their looks, while people with medium to olive skin tones will look great wearing berry or coral shades, and people with darker skin may want to wear deep red color as their safest options.

My complexion is somewhat between medium to olive. For me, it is not easy to find the right lipstick shade that will look fabulous on my lips. I always end up trying as many colors as possible just to find the "right one".

To help me (and all of you) find the best lipstick color to wear in certain occasion, I made this printable lipstick guide that you can print at home and use it as your make up guide or ideas. I've put together lipstick color chart with every occasion, including which complexions they work best for.

I personally like to make and collect useful article with helpful illustration and use it as my source of inspiration or just simply a helper. For make up guide like this, I just print it and insert it in my planner so every time I wonder what color/look I should wear, I just open my planner and find bunch of options that I like. It's like non-digital version of Pinterest, but won't need Wi-Fi connection.

Anyway, this is just my personal choices of what I think will look great and suitable for each occasion. Remember to always test colors against your skin before you make a decision.

To download larger resolution of this lipstick guide, just click on the download link below, extract the .zip file and you'll find the file in .jpg and .pdf.

DIY Animal Jewelry/Necklaces Holder

I personally don't like the idea of putting all my necklaces together in a jewelry box. Not only because I will mostly spend 5-10 minutes untangling necklaces, but also because I think it's sad to relegate such beautiful form of art to a dark and tiny space where no one could appreciate its beauty when I'm not wearing it. So I came up with this pretty solution and I'm really happy with how it turned out.

Materials: Picture frame (remove the glass), plastic animal toy figurines, gold paint, brush paint, x-acto knife, small nails, sandpaper.

Tools: Hammer, pencil, scissor.

Optional: White paint, white paper, rope.

Good thing is, I already have almost all of the materials and tools I used on this project and only spent a total of IDR 30,000 (way less than US $3) for buying a pack of small plastic animal toy figurines and a can of gold paint.

I had always wanted to do this DIY ever since I found a similar project (using half-cut plastic animal toy figurines) on Pinterest. With this chic and adorable animal holder, I can finally organize and display my (cheap) necklaces collection in a pretty way. Yay because now I have a spot where I can just hang all my necklaces and it doubles as wall art too!

DIY No Sew Dog/Pet Bow Tie (3 Easy Ways)

Dog with bow tie? Omg, I can't even...!

This DIY is quick and very easy to make. It's so perfect as a last minute touch up before you bring your fluffy friend to a party or an evening dinner at a friend's house. I actually made these bow ties for photograph purpose and it makes Suri and Lammy look even more adorable in photos.

It only takes me for about 5 minutes to make each pretty bow tie and basically all you need is just a piece of cute fabric, velcro, and hot glue gun, and you're all set. If you're not so good at sewing like me, then this DIY is definitely for you.

I made these bow ties in three different ways and styles: adorable, fancy, and cute! But really, you can name it anything you want! The result will be all the same anyway: beautify your pooch and make everybody asks "can I pet your dog?"

Materials: Fabric/felt, ribbon, velcro.

Tools: Hot glue gun, measuring tape, lighter, scissor.

DIY Mosaic Letter from Old CD and Cereal Boxes

These days, almost all files have gone digital. I still remember those old days when my shelves were full of cds or dvds of musics, movies, school assignments, and back-ups of important files.

I don't know about you but as a clumsy person I was before (I still am, actually), I'm pretty sure I had wasted many discs by not burning files for my school projects and other back-ups properly. I never wanted to toss them out in the trash in the first place, hoping that they would be useful someday. But after a while, they sure started to take up a lot of space so I decided to transform those failed burnt discs that lying around my house into something more valuable.

If you don't like the idea of using old cds of your favorite bands or movies (even if you'll most likely never even touch it again) because you think it may become an antique collection, using failed burnt discs may be a smart answer for you.

Materials and tools: Many old cds or dvds (I prefer to use dvd), cereal boxes, print out of your preferred letter, scissor, pencil, ruler, clear tape, hot glue gun, hot boiled water, and paper tape (optional).

I spent zero money on this project because both materials and tools are so easy to find and I believe most people likely have them around their house already. But I must say that this is not a quick DIY project because gluing tiny pieces of cds actually took time. However, the result is worth the effort! It looks glam, chic, and modern, not to mention unique and artsy.

Introducing My Youtube Channel

Like a week ago, I'm starting doing something new. I created a new Youtube channel to share my inner passion, i.e. DIY.

How do I know if I love DIY?

For me, simply because it makes me happy and I never feel obligated to finish a craft when I start doing a DIY project. I do what I like because I like doing that. As silly as it sounds, but it is! I'm happy with making a DIY project and that's it. And I want to share it with the world through video, an easy to follow medium, which is why I choose Youtube.

I'm not new in doing DIY, I've been creating "stuffs" since like I was a little kid. And believe it or not my crafts always turned out satisfying, well, maybe not all but most of them. So yes, I'm passionate enough to make a Youtube video about it. What's new for me is making a video and talking to a camera. It's really daunting for me. I'm kind of camera-shy, it's really weird and awkward when I first filmed my self, but I tried my best not too. I think it shows through the video, but I don't know, you probably can tell it yourself.

So yeah, expect to see DIY contents here in my blog too. I will really appreciate any support!

Don't forget to subscribe and let me know what you think.
Let's be positive :)

What to Wear in Thailand

If you're planning to go to Thailand, here's a few tips that you may want to consider about what you should wear during your trip. I’m using my personal travel experience to give you a brief packing guide on your outfits.

The weather in Thailand is generally marked by three seasons: rainy season, hot season, and cool season. By the time I visit, which is end of May, the climate was most likely hot and humid (hot season). In Thailand, there are some tourist attractions which may require certain type of outfits, so don't forget to always pack according to your planned activities.

What I wear in Thailand:

My Packing List (4 Days 3 Nights)

  • 4 tops: 3 sleeveless tops, 1 blouse
  • 3 bottoms: 1 midi skirt, 1 skinny jeans, 1 shorts
  • 2 outerwear: 1 cardigan, 1 blazer
  • 2 dresses: 1 little black dress, 1 printed mini dress
  • 2 footwear: 1 flat sandals, 1 wedges
  • 2 sleepwear
  • 6 pairs of underwear
  • Accessories: sunhat, sunglasses, jewelry (necklace, bracelet, earring)

General Packing Tips

  • Wear sunglasses, sunhat, and plenty of sunscreen.
  • Pack loose fitting, lightweight clothing that breathes well and dries quickly such as silk, cotton, or linen to keep you cool.
  • Pack at least one long-sleeved shirt for extra coverage from the sun at day and cool wind at night, mosquitoes and unwanted stares.
  • Opt for midi or maxi skirts, below the knee.
  • Sandals are quite practical because some places expect you to remove your shoes before entering.

Things To Avoid

  • If you plan to visit temple or other sacred site, shorts, mini skirt, and sleeveless shirt are not recommended or you may offend the local people.
  • Unless you go to party at evening, it's always best to avoid dangerously high heels.
  • Don't go crazy with your make-up during the day, the sun will most likely melt everything.
