September 2016 Favorites

I'd like to be honest, I don't know what are my favorites for this month. I spent 2 weeks went back to Indonesia and another long weekend visiting Legoland Malaysia and Universal Studio Singapore this month so I don't recall I pay enough attention to claim stuff as my favorites. But let me try giving my room one more final glance to hopefully find some special items that I wear or use a lot this month. Ah, okay. Here they are:

1. Body Glide - Anti Blister Balm

I talked about this product in my latest DIY post, so I hope that explains why this one is my current favorite, and probably will always be. Not only it's very effective to prevent my feet from pain and blister, this product is also easy to use and stain-free.

2. Mosquito Repellents!

This Summer, Singaporeans were made panic from the news of Zika virus. As one of the prevention step, I bought supplies of mosquito repellents to protect myself from mosquito bites. Mosquito repellents were most wanted items in the entire Singapore in the last couple weeks, I believe. I still remember I hunt for it from store to store before I went to Kuala Lumpur and bought from there.

3. Manicure at Home

Earlier this month, I bought sets of nail and cuticle care products from Sally Hansen and try to do manicure myself. It's been a fun experience for me. This way I can treat my dry cuticle better and save some $$. Another favorite nail product for me currently is gel nail polish. I like how durable the nail polish is. However, the only downside about gel nail polish is the removing part. I'll talk about that in another post next time.

4. Kinohimitsu Beauty Set

This one is not really this month favorite because I've just started drinking this week. But, I have to admit that I like it so far. This product claims to help brighten and enhance skin condition, which is exactly what I need because of my never-ending-dryness skin and the effect of long sun exposure from my previous Indonesia followed by Legoland and USS trip. I like this product because it tastes great and help to boost up my mood in the morning.

5. Pinterest!

I love Pinterest and I'm a true fan of it. But lately I've become an addicted user. I'm pinning many things from Pinterest and it takes up most of my free time now. I love how everything I search in Pinterest is always good or brilliant and it gives me limitless ideas for my next projects.

Drawing Challenge: 101 People

This is probably the craziest idea to start drawing many many real people into images because I barely even know anyone in this country, except my husband and his family. But I see people everyday. My neighbors, the security, the bus driver, the ice cream uncle, the woman who walks her dog every evening, the convenient store’s cashier, the librarian, the people who cross the street… Yes, they do exist. So it’s probably not that impossible to draw, like, 101 people.

If you're following me on Instagram (@carolynnyoe), you might already aware that I started posting some drawings of real people that I met randomly. And yes, I was drawing them on purpose! I started a drawing challenge for myself called 101 People that is basically to reflect 101 real people into illustrations. The goal of this challenge is to literally draw one hundred one people. I draw people who I found interesting to draw and it's been fun so far. I didn't put pressure on timeline, as in when I have to get those 101 illustrations done, but rather enjoying and learning more on the process. I like this kind of challenge because it helps me to stay creative and productive. I uploaded my drawings for this project on Tumblr (http://101people.tumblr.com/), so if you have a Tumblr account and want to know who I stalk, you can follow that page.

DIY Fixing Shoes Insoles Problem + Tips for Keeping Feet Blister-Free

Do you ever feel irritated by your new shoes insoles that is always spoiled in just a few times of wearing? Does your new pair of shoes always leave blister and pain on your feet?

Well, allow me to share how I fix my shoes problems with you.

Let me start by saying I love RUBI! It just happens that all the shoes featured here are under their brand. I'm not anything against them. I actually like their design, especially for their sneakers. It's pretty and very affordable (SGD30 for 2 pairs!). The only downside about this shoes is their insoles. I always found my socks very sticky after wearing them. It seems like the insoles are not strongly attached to the shoes and it moves along with my step even for the first time of wearing it. When I say very sticky, I really mean very sticky, to the point that it's very hard to remove the sticky residue. Even if it happened on my first pairs of RUBI shoes, it didn't make me stop buying another pairs. Well, this is just how I really like RUBI. I am not sure if it's only happening to me or if it's a reoccurring problem for others as well? However, instead of giving up on my used-once shoes, I tried to fix it and giving them another chance again.

Notice the shoddy insoles?

Beside the insoles problem, another annoying problem about wearing shoes for me comes by the end of the day when I take off my shoes only to find blisters on my feet. I believe that no matter how beautiful the shoes is, the skin ain't supposed to suffer. That is why I usually would stop wearing the shoes that gives me blisters while saying a half-bye because I will only wear them again once the blister is completely recovered. I tried few things to prevent this problem before, such as sticking sticker pad that you can put on the painful area of the shoes or even using petroleum jelly like Vaseline to protect my skin. But none of them works well for me. Sticker pad is ugly and not suitable for many kind of shoes, especially heels, and Vaseline tends to always leave messy residue. Lucky, just recently I start noticing this product called Body Glide when I strolled around Watson. This product claims to prevent pain and blister from chafing and it had been my favorite product to protect my feet from this shoes problem so far!

If you cannot find Body Glide, you can refer to other similar products listed here. I personally recommend Body Glide because I tried it myself and it works well for me.

Anyway, I made a simple tutorial about the shoes insoles problem and also showing you how I keep my feet blister-free as well.

Icy and Flaky - My First LINE Stickers!

First of all, I was pretty busy these last couple weeks so this is considered a late announcement. However, I'm still excited to announce that since 5 September 2016, my first LINE stickers set is officially on sale! Yay!

A little story behind these characters:
Icy and Flaky are two cute snowmen that I drew a while ago. I've been addicted to use LINE stickers to chat and swap jokes with KL. We both thought that it would be great if we can have our own stickers. From there, I was then eager to see Icy and Flaky alive and talking to each other. I made a series of drawings before I slowly convert them into LINE stickers.

This is my first LINE stickers and I am happy that now I can use Icy and Flaky stickers to chat in LINE. Unfortunately, this stickers set is not available to download in Indonesia. This stickers set was once rejected by LINE before it's finally accepted after I removed Indonesia as one of the list of countries of sale. This is what LINE wrote to me upon the reason of rejection:

Due to conflict with the worldviews in different cultures and customs around the world, the stickers you submitted will not be allowed to sell in Indonesia.

Honestly, I'm still not quite understand why Icy and Flaky stickers are violating Indonesia cultures and customs. After all, it's still such a shame because I'm Indonesian myself and my LINE ID is from Indonesia as well. But anyway, I did enjoy making my first LINE stickers. By the time I write this, I am also submitting my next LINE stickers and it is currently in review. I will share more about creating LINE stickers later, probably after my second LINE stickers are approved.

NOTE: You can download Icy and Flaky with your LINE account. Icy and Flaky is available to download in all countries, except Indonesia.
