Review: Illustration School: Let's Draw Plants and Small Creatures

This is another lovely book by Sachiko Umoto. Her darling ways to create a series of adorable drawings never fail to captivate me as always. In this book, she shows simple directions on how to draw cute flowers, plants, fruits, and other small creatures.

I purchased this book after I finished with her Illustration School: Let's Draw a Story. Actually, I've borrowed and read this book a couple of times from the library before I eventually decided to buy and keep it for my own resources.

I love how creative her books are. I mean, look at this. Instead of normal and boring tutorial, she uses funny little songs as you learn to draw butterfly and other cute characters. There are places for you to trace on the drawings and finish the artwork as well. It's undeniably fun and entertaining!

If you want to learn how to draw cute flowers and plants, this book is definitely one you wouldn't want to miss. It's loaded with tons of reference with simple yet adorable style. Kids who like to draw will surely enjoy this book as there's a lot to explore and learn from.

There are also pages where she gives out ideas on how to have fun with illustrations, such as decorating stationery and sketching on photographs. It helps sharpen your creativity and imagination.

What I really appreciate from Sachiko Umoto's book are her lively and joyful interpretation of life that she pours out on the texts to accompany her illustration. When I read her books, I feel more like I'm listening to a friend than a teacher, and it's really amazing. Her sweet little encouragement every here and there is the one that makes her special.
